The average person spends 79 years on Earth, which equates to over 690,000 hours of time spent breathing, talking, laughing, living, and so much more!
No matter where you live or what you do, we are all working with the same amount of time in a day. While some of us are often, “pressed for time” or do things, “in the nick of time”, there are some of us who complete things, “ahead of time” or do leisurely activities to, “pass the time”. Others have learned to, “make the time” for what is important in their lives.
If you have always considered volunteering but didn’t think you, "had the time", think again. Many volunteer opportunities seek out individuals with specific talents, such as being handy, having a green thumb, or being computer savvy. But what about a volunteer opportunity where your time is what is wanted the most? You don’t have to be especially talented in any one area.
The mentoring program at Bergen Volunteers is always looking for volunteers to give their time to another person. We match individuals throughout Bergen County who could use some additional support in their lives with caring, non-judgmental, resourceful volunteers.
You do not need to be an expert to be a volunteer! Many of our mentors have told us that their mentoring experience improved their own morale, enriched their values, and personal satisfaction, all while developing new positive perspectives on life. Our mentors often gain as much as our mentees do during their match.
We ask that all matches meet every other week for about 2 hours. When you think of that commitment in terms of one year, the total is 52 hours. What’s 52 hours when you have 690,000 of them?
Would you be willing to make the time to be a mentor and have the opportunity to positively impact someone else’s life?
