Jayantha Fernando Recognized for Volunteering
Congratulations to Volunteer Ventures member Jayantha Fernando for receiving the 2008 Wachovia Northern NJ Volunteer of the Year Award! Volunteer Ventures is a program sponsored by the Volunteer Center of Bergen County that provides evening and weekend volunteer projects for busy, working adults. Jayantha volunteered over 300 hours in the past year alone!
She helped set up for functions and assisted frail clients at the Care One facility in Ridgewood, cared for children while their parents attended programs of the Center for Alcohol and Drug Resources and helped at concerts of the Palisades Virtuosi. Jayantha also helped Shelter our Sisters, a domestic violence shelter, by wrapping gifts at the mall to raise funds, helping with family picnics, mentoring victims of domestic violence, and helping in the administrative office. She also helped raise funds for Youth Education in the Arts, regularly visits people with disabilities at homes sponsored by Spectrum for Living, and is a permanent volunteer at Holy Name Hospital’s gift shop.
Congratulations to Jayantha! She is an inspiration to many!
